Schaffran Propeller + Service GMBH’s head office is located in the Hansestadt Lubeck, Germany. We design and build custom made propellers, complete shaft installations as well as hydraulically operated controllable pitch propellers for yachts, patrol boats, naval ships governmental vessels, police boats, offshore supply vessels, fishing boats, tugboats, coasters, ferries, river cruise ship and passenger ships.
Over decades we have gained experience in the area of design, production and overhauling / reconditioning of fixed and controllable pitch propellers as well as shaft installations.
Fixed pitch propellers
Fixed pitch propellers(FPP) by Schaffran are successfully operated for many decades on various ship types. As unique as the ships themselves are the propellers designed for these ships and their specifications. They can be designed and manufactured as open or ducted propellers, as single or multiple screw arrangement with 3, 4, 4, 5, 6 or 7 blades.
Apart from meeting the exact power-rpm-relation required, effectiveness (best possible efficiency with minimal fuel use) and low noise (minimisation of vibrations) of the drive as well as harmfull cavitation prevention are a priorty for us.
Schaffran is often involved in the early design stage of a project and can thereby support the customers in their selection of the right propulsion concept, as well as the determination of important parameters such as the engine performance and gear box reduction ratio.
Controllable pitch propellers (CPP)
Also Schaffran’s hydraulically operated controllable pitch properties (CPP) have been delivered and operated successfully for over theee decades on various ship types. Through distinct design variations we are able to offer our optimised CPP installations for nearly every ship application.
Our hydraulically operated CPP’s are available in different sizes and shapes with and without feathering position, with 3, 4 or 5 blades. It is understood that the blade shape is individually adjusted for the best hydrodynamic fit to achieve a minimum in noise and vibrations as well as maximum in efficiency.
With our proven CPP hub design, the blade pitch angle can be actuated over a range of 45deg with the standard compact VK series. This actuation range is extended upto 120deg with the VL-S series, thus allowing a feathering position with minimum hydrodynamic drag for a non-driven propeller.
